This week, I set out to paint animals, specifically party animals. I really enjoyed painting the goose and chicken with a heart balloon weeks back, so I thought, why not draw animals holding balloons that look like they are going to a party?
So, I drew a duck with balloons and a party hat.

Quinn has been jump roping a ton, so Jordan and I have joined in on the fun. Jump roping is such a good workout and is so fun! I work out regularly, but jump roping made me sore in places that haven’t been sore in a long time. We even bought double-dutch ropes, and I’m telling you right now that double-dutch is no joke, and I still haven’t relearned how I used to jump two ropes. Now, these animals aren’t necessarily partying, but I thought of the idea, so I had to bring it to life.

I then painted a chicken with rubber boots and a matching umbrella. This is where I got frustrated. The dang chickens, I can’t seem to figure out how to get depth and have them go from 2D to 3D. So this next week, I hope to figure that out and work on bringing more depth to my watercolor paintings. I love the umbrella, and the boots are so cute. The chicken just needs a little oomf and I don’t know what that is yet, besides depth.

I also painted a birthday card for my mom. (surprise mom!) My parents were supposed to come over this last weekend to see Quinn’s last basketball game and celebrate my mom’s birthday, but both passes were closed, so they weren’t able to make it. We were so bummed. So, Mom, you’ll get your card when I see you next. I actually really like how Susan turned out. I feel like the depth is there, especially with her nose.

More learning and painting to come. I really have enjoyed painting the animals we know and love on our backyard farm, so I think I’ll keep coming up with ideas with our animals doing human activities. Hopefully, next week, I can get more depth in my animal paintings.
