This week, I got new watercolor paints. I’ve been wanting to get some different colors and tones, especially a good red. I ended up getting tubed watercolors because I wanted the rich color they offer. So, this week I spent time swatching all the new colors to see the different washes each color produces. Before that, I used the palette I’ve had for the paintings.

In the spring, robins are everywhere. We have outdoor speakers around our house, and last year, three of them had robin nests built on them. I just can’t take them down once they’ve worked so hard to build them, and they usually lay eggs in them right away. The robins and the babies made a big mess, and so before the robins came back, we took the three nests down. Not even a week later, a robin began building a new nest on one of the speakers.
With the three nests taken down, I took one and painted it.

I also painted a snail and a little mouse. Two animals that can be painted so that the viewer believes they are cute, maybe even cuddly, but seeing a mouse in real life gives the eebie jeebies, and a snail ruins plants. Both are unwanted pests, but I find them cute when drawn or painted.

Annnnnddd a bit more whimsy. I just can’t stay away from it!
I went to a baby shower for a friend who has struggled with infertility and miraculously got pregnant despite all the odds. I painted this sweet little card for her.

That card gave me the idea to paint a duck with her babies following behind. I just love these two paintings so much! They are my favorite paintings I have done this year.
